Safe Administration of Life Saving Medication (SALM) – Level 3 Award (RQF)

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Hold a valid Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 4) or QA-recognised equivalent
  • Must be employed (full-time, part-time, or ad hoc) by a CQC-registered prehospital care provider (or overseas equivalent)
  • Must bring ID and be physically able to complete practical tasks

The Qualsafe FREC 3 (First Response Emergency Care Level 3) is a nationally recognised and Ofqual regulated qualification designed for those who require advanced first aid skills in the workplace, at public events, or in remote and challenging environments. It provides the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to manage a wide range of medical emergencies until further professional help arrives.

This course is ideal for event medical staff, security personnel, outdoor instructors, and anyone working in higher risk settings where enhanced first aid cover is required.

  • Emergency services capabilities
  • Structured patient assessment
  • Mechanism of injury and incident
  • Life threatening bleeding control
  • Airway management and emergency oxygen
  • Breathing difficulties (trauma and medical)
  • Prehospital trauma care
  • Prehospital emergency medical care

  • Primary triage (Ten Second Triage) and lifesaving interventions
  • Moving and handling: in an emergency and assisting a clinician
  • Recording assessment findings
